L.A. County and Century Housing Corp. are moving forward with plans for a new affordable housing complex just west of L.A. General Medical Center in Lincoln Heights.

Today, the County's Board of Supervisors is slated to vote to approve a lease agreement with Century Housing for a site located at 1321 N. Mission Road. The vacant land, which also fronts Griffin Avenue, was previously developed with small buildings that provided supportive functions to the hospital.

The project slated for the roughly 2.3-acre property, dubbed the Bienestar Restorative Care Village, calls for the construction of 294 units of housing serving low-income seniors, persons experiencing homelessness, and two on-site managers, as well as 11,000 square feet of community-serving uses. That housing would include mostly studio and one-bedroom units, with a handful of two-bedroom apartments. All of the new dwellings would be reserved for households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income level.

GGA+ and Studio-MLA are designing the project, according to plans included with the presentation.

In addition to approving a lease agreement for the land, L.A. County would also provide $20 million in No Place Like Home funding for the project.

The project has previously been described as an expansion of the L.A. General Medical Center's nearby Restorative Care Village, which provides interim housing and supportive services for unhoused patients discharged from the hospital. That campus is also expected to add new components on land that was formerly developed with the Women and Children's Hospital.

The new housing and supportive services included in the care villages could be complemented by the redevelopment of the historic General Hospital building and roughly 12 acres of surrounding land. L.A. County has sought to bring housing, services, retail, and public open space to the complex.

Century Housing, based in Culver City, is currently in construction on new affordable housing in Long Beach, Willowbrook, San Pedro, and Westwood.
