On October 2, construction officialy began for the Salinas Avenue Home Ownership Project, a new development of single family houses in unincorporated Willowbrook.

The project, which comes from Olson Homes, is slated for a vacant 9.5-acre lot at 13024 Salinas Avenue.  Olson intends to develop 94 for-sale homes on the property.

As part of a condition in its agreement to purchase the land from Los Angeles County, 30 of the houses will be set aside for moderate-income and lower-income buyers for a term of 45 years.  The Los Angeles County Community Development Commissions will provide mortage assistance for buyers during this time period.

Prices start at $80,000 for the income restricted houses, and $400,000 for other buyers.

Sales are expected to begin in 2018, although the project will not be fully built out until late 2019 or early 2020.

A new multifamily residential development is now rising on the outskirts of Westwood and Century City.  The project, located at 10534 W. Santa Monica Boulevard, consists of a five-story building that will feature 37 apartments - including three very-low-income units - above three levels of basement parking for 45 vehicles.
