Architecture firm HED has unveiled a new look for a proposed mixed-use tower just west of the Harbor Freeway in Westlake.

The project, which would replace the City Center Hotel at the intersection of 7th Street and Lucas Avenue, calls for the construction of a 25-story edifice featuring 225 residential units - including 19 set aside for low-income households - above a podium structure featuring 323 parking stalls and 7,200 square feet of ground-floor retail space.

Renderings depict a modern glass-and-steel tower.

Prior ownership had imagined the project as a slightly taller 26-story tower featuring 241 housing units.

The development site is currently under the ownership of SEVEN Street Properties, LLC, which purchased the nearly 34,000-square-foot site in 2017 for approximately $27 million.

A timeline for the project has not been announced.

A handful of other high-rise developments are planned on surrounding blocks, including a proposed 36-story tower at the corner of Bixel and Ingraham Streets and a 29-story building slated for 7th and Witmer Streets.
