At its meeting today, the Culver City Planning Commission is scheduled to review a proposal from a local developer to build new offices in the Hayden Tract.
The proposed development is slated for a property at 3516 Schaefer Street, which is located approximately a half-mile east of Metro's Culver City Station. Santa Monica-based Redcar Properties is seeking approvals to construct 9,847 square feet of office space, building off of an existing 7,500-square-foot building. The resulting development would consist of a three-story, 17,208-square-foot structure served by 27 parking spaces - more than half of which would be located within stackers.
Frogtown-based architecture firm RAC Design Build is designing the 3516 Schaefer development, which would rise approximately 43 feet in height. Renderings depict an airy low-rise structure, featuring sloping roof lines, double-height ceilings, and large windows.
The Hayden Tract, an industrial zone-turned-office district on the east side of Culver City, is best known as the home of the headphone maker Beats by Dre. Developer Samitaur has teamed with architect Eric Owen Moss to build an array of abstract office complexes throughout the neighborhood, the largest of which is the 17-story Wrapper tower, now rising on Jefferson Boulevard.
Redcar and RAC Design Build are working on several similar office developments to 3516 Schaefer across the Los Angeles area, with ongoing projects in Santa Monica, Chinatown, and other neighborhoods.
