Publicly-accessible open space has quietly debuted next to the recently-completed AVEN apartment tower in Downtown Los Angeles.

South Park Commons, built by Mack Real Estate Development as part of AVEN's community benefits agreement, is located on the east side of Grand Avenue between 11th and 12th Streets - flanked by the apartment tower to the south and the Grand Lofts to the north.

Designed by Rios Clementi Hale Studios, the mostly hardscaped space includes planters, shade trees, and outdoor seating.  A portion of the open space is also dedicated to outdoor seating for a restaurant planned at the foot of the AVEN tower.

Entrances to the plaza are located on both Grand Avenue to the west and the Margo Street alley way to the east, allowing pedestrian access from Mack Real Estate Development's proposed apartment and hotel towers on Olive Street.

Additional open space could come to South Park at a site located two blocks south, where the City of Los Angeles is considering purchasing a state-owned property at 14th and Hill Streets to build a 1.45-acre park.
