The project, called Miramar Gold, would rise from a currently vacant site at 1438 Miramar Street. Plans call for the construction of a seven-story building featuring 94 rental apartments - including 47 one-bedroom units reserved for formerly homeless households and 46 one-, two-, and three-bedroom units for households earning 50 percent or less than the area median income.
In addition to housing, Miramar Gold will include ground-floor amenities wrapping a central outdoor space. Proposed features include a community room, a fitness center, a library, a laundry facility, and offices for on-site service providers. Plans also call for a rooftop amenity deck and parking for 61 vehicles.
Architecture firm 64North is designing the apartment complex, which will be composed of two seven-story wings connected by pedestrian bridges at each level. Renderings depict a contemporary facade highlighted by varying geometric forms.
The building will employ modular construction for unit interiors, and is anticipated to obtain LEED Gold certification.
West Hollywood Community Housing purchased the development site in February, and is currently seeking $20 million in state funding for construction, according to a project representative. Los Angeles County is already poised to provide $2 million in funding for Miramar Gold.
Approvals for the affordable housing complex were accelerated through AB 1197, state legislation which exempts all emergency homeless shelters and supportive housing developments in Los Angeles from the California Environmental Quality Act. Miramar Gold is the first project approved as a result of the law.
