Located on a 1.4-acre site near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Prospect Avenue, the four-story complex will feature 52 condominiums and townhomes, with one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans between 869 and 1,945 square feet. Plans also call for 10,500 square feet of retail space, an underground parking garage and amenities such as a landscaped courtyard and multiple roof decks.
Withee Malcolm Architects is designing the low-rise project, which will include art installations by Mike Stutz and Britt Tobia.
Completion is anticipated in 2018.
One South was grudgingly approved by the Redondo Beach City Council in 2015 on a split 3-2 vote. According to the Beach Reporter, the Council had hoped to deny the project, and directed City staff to identify a "data-backed" justification for the action. However, staff was unable to identify any reasoning that could stand up to legal scrutiny.
The City of Redondo Beach has since placed a moratorium on the construction of similar mixed-use developments.
