In Santa Monica, a new multifamily residential development is taking shape at a hillside property on Pico Boulevard.

The project, located at 1112-1122 Pico Boulevard, consists of a four-story structure featuring 32 two-bedroom apartments above two levels of subterranean parking for 64 vehicles.

KFA Architecture is designing the building, which is divided into three masses broken up by two courtyards.  According to the KFA website, its design was inspired by California beach houses and will feature a facade of natural wood siding intended to weather to a soft gray.

According to Santa Monica Lookout, developer Peter Bohlinger agreed in 2014 to place 11 of the building's 32 total apartments under rent control.  An additional four units would be reserved for very-low-income households.

Completion of the project, which is known as Pico Eleven, is anticipated later this year.
