The $27-million development, one of the first projects funded by Measure HHH to break ground, will consist of a seven-story building featuring 47 studio apartments reserved for the formerly homeless and other at-risk persons. Plans also call for 25,000 square feet of clinic space at the ground floor, which will be operated by Los Angeles Christian Health Centers, as well as parking for 25 vehicles.
Rents at the 649 Lofts will range between $473 and $788 per month for residents making between 30 and 50 percent of the Los Angeles area median income.
Completion of the project, which is designed by architects and Abode Communities, is expected in late 2019.
Skid Row Housing Trust is expected to begin construction soon for a similar development featuring 100 residential units at the opposite corner of 7th and Wall, and recently broke ground on another project at 7th and San Pedro Streets.
