Plans to replace a pair of late 1940s buildings in Eagle Rock with an affordable housing complex continue to move forward, according to a motion introduced last month by 14th District Councilmember Jose Huizar.

The project, called Colorado East, would span a nearly 15,000-square-foot property at 2451 Colorado Boulevard.  Plans call for a four-story edifice which would feature 40 apartments for residential units priced for families making 30 percent or less than the area median income, with one manager's unit.

Colorado East is being developed by non-profit builders DDCM and Riverside Charitable Corporation.

Huizar's motion calls for the issuance of $14.1 million in bond financing for the proposed apartment complex.

The project was previously conceived as a mixed-income development, featuring 25 affordable units with 16 market rate units and ground-floor commercial space.

Its developer, DDCM, built a larger apartment complex on an abutting property in 2006.
