The four-story building, located at the southeast corner of Los Robles Avenue and Green Street, is named in honor of Bernard J. Tyson, the Oakland-based non-profit's former CEO, who unexpectedly passed away in November 2019.
The real-life product adheres closely to conceptual renderings first presented in February 2019, with a sloping roofline giving way to an elevated deck overlooking Los Robles.
The school, which is expected to start with an initial class of 48 students, will eventually enroll up to 192 students by 2022. Its first five graduating classes will attend tuition-free, in an arrangement announced last year by the non-profit.
Kaiser's medical school sits one block south of Colorado Street, where construction is now underway for a new condo complex adjacent to the Paseo Colorado shopping mall.
