One year after our last update, construction has progressed to the fourth floor at The Rise Koreatown, a mixed-use apartment complex.

The project, a joint venture between Cal-Coast Development and Rescore, replaces a 2.2-acre shopping center at 3525 W. 8th Street.  Plans call for a seven-story edifice which will feature 364 apartments - including 38 set aside for low- and moderate-income households - above 52,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial uses and parking for 791 vehicles.

Nadel Architects designed the podium-type structure, which would stand 102 feet in height.  Floor plans show that the building's upper floors would encircle a central courtyard, flanked by residential amenities.

Completion of The Rise is anticipated in 2021, according to the Cal-Coast website.

The co-developers of the more than $150-million project are also in the midst of construction on a similar mixed-use complex in Hollywood.

The Rise Koreatown site spans one block of 8th Street, where prolific local developer Jamison Services, Inc. is developing several similar mixed-use buildings.  Two are now under construction at Western Avenue and Harvard Boulevard, while a third is slated to replace a parking lot at Serrano Avenue.
