The concrete-and-steel frame of a 35-story building slated to be the tallest in Long Beach is rising at the corner of Ocean Boulevard and Alamitos Avenue.
The Shoreline Gateway development - a joint venture between Ledcor Properties, Anderson Pacific, LLC, Qualico, and Lantower Residential - will consist of 315 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments atop 6,460 square feet of ground-floor retail space and five levels of subterranean parking.
The glass-clad building's design team has included Studio One Eleven, Carrier Johnson + Culture, and Relm. The completed project is envisioned with amenity decks at the third floor and roof level, as well as common features such as a fitness center and a community room.
Shoreline Gateway - standing 417 feet in height - is expected to open in 2021.
The tower is a follow-up to an adjacent mixed-use development called The Current, which was built by the same project team. That 17-story building also includes multifamily housing and ground-floor retail, and will share a pedestrian plaza with the Shoreline Gateway tower.
While the project will likely own the title of Long Beach's tallest building upon completion, it may not hold the crown for long. Trammell Crow Residential has announced plans for a multi-phase complex on the opposite side of the Downtown neighborhood which would include a 40-story, 426-foot-tall building.
Other high-rise developments in the works for Long Beach include a 30-story hotel tower planned by American Life, LLC, a 23-story apartment building planned by Ensemble Real Estate Investments, and Onni Group’s $215-million Broadway Block complex.
