An empty lot in Florence-Firestone could be redeveloped with small scale affordable housing, following an action taken earlier today by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

In a consent calendar vote, the Board moved to approve a staff recommendation to enter into an exclusive negotiating agreement (ENA) with Restore Neighborhoods LA (RNLA) for the redevelopment of a property at 1532-1542 E. 85th Street.  The 15,500-square-foot site, located two blocks west of the A Line's Firestone Station, is currently owned by the Los Angeles County Development Authority.

The ENA period, which will run for an initial term of 6 months with an optional 6 month extension, is intended to allow RNLA to work with both the County and the surrounding community on the design and scale of the project.

RNLA, which has developed more than 800 housing units in the Los Angeles are according to a staff report, has previously secured rights to build small-scale affordable housing on County-owned property in Willowbrook.

The Los Angeles-based non-profit's portfolio of past projects includes bungalow-court style affordable housing in the Vermont Knolls community.
