Just over one year after breaking ground next-door to the Capitol Records Building, Related California is forging towards completion on a midcentury modern-inspired apartment tower.

The 18-story building, known as 1755 Argyle, will feature 114 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments atop 2,100 square feet of ground-floor retail and parking for 201 vehicles.  The project will also features amenities, including a pool deck and a fitness center.

Large Architecture designed the 177-foot tall building, which uses alternating floor plates to create a dynamic facade.

Plans for a development on the property date back to 2006, when a prior owner announced plans for a 16-story tower at the site of a former KFWB radio station.  In the years, similar proposals have emerged for surrounding lots, including 6220 Yucca and the Millennium Hollywood.

Across the street, construction is now complete for the Kimpton Everly Hotel, which features 220 guest rooms in a 16-story frame.
