In South Gate, non-profit developer and service provider PATH Ventures has broke ground on a new permanent supportive housing complex.

The PATH Villas at South Gate, a $33.5-million development at 5610 Imperial Highway, will consist of a four-story edifice featuring 60 studio and one-bedroom apartments reserved for veterans and formerly homeless people with chronic health conditions.

According to a September 2019 staff report to the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, the apartments will offer rents considered affordable to households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income.  Rents will range from as low as $548 per month for a studio to upwards of $1.175 per month for higher-income residents in one-bedroom units.

Torti Gallas + Partners is designing the apartment complex, which is depicted as a contemporary low-rise structure clad in stucco and corrugated metal panels.

Completion of construction is expected in Fall 2021, according to social media posts by the developer.

Other under construction projects from PATH include new housing developments in West Adams and Rampart Village, as well as a proposed complex in Hollywood.

The development site is located just west of the intersection of Imperial Highway and Garfield Avenue, where construction is now underway for a 244-unit market rate apartment complex.

Both projects will be located in close proximity to two stations planned on Metro's West Santa Ana Branch light rail line.
