The wood-and-concrete frame of a permanent supportive housing complex is largely complete at the intersection of 69th and Main Streets in South Los Angeles.

The Residences on Main, which is being built by co-developers L.A. Family Housing and the Coalition for Responsible Community Development, will consist of a four-story edifice featuring 50 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments catering to chronically homeless persons, transition-aged youth, and families.

According to a staff report to the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, the Residences will rent to households earning at or below 35 and 50 percent of the area median income.  Rents will range between $509 and $1,260 per month.

Designed by Y&M Architects, the building includes three levels of wood-frame construction above a single-story podium.  Ancillary features within the contemporary low-rise structures will include community rooms, a central courtyard, a garden, and parking for 25 vehicles.

The approximately $29.2-million project is slated to open in 2021.

L.A. Family Housing is also developing affordable and permanent supportive housing communities in several parts of the San Fernando Valley.

The Coalition's projects are largely focused in South Los Angeles, including 112 residential units planned in two buildings on the opposite side of Main Street.
