Developer Mercy Housing California recently marked the completion of vertical construction for a new permanent supportive housing development for formerly homeless veterans in the City of Norwalk.

The project, built on a previously vacant site at 11950 Foster Road, is named the Veteran Villas at San Antonio, in reference to its cross street. The four-story building will feature 60 apartments, all reserved for homeless veterans earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income, save for a manager's unit.

TCA Architects is designing the contemporary low-rise structure, which is depicted in renderings with a stucco exterior that is accented with red panels. Besides housing, plans call for a community room, a laundry facility, and a courtyard, lounge areas, gaming areas, and children's play areas.

According to a June 2022 staff report to the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, the Norwalk project will offer a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments.

The more than $42.8 million is being financed through a variety of state and local sources.

In addition to the Veteran Villas, Mercy Housing has recently completed work on similar projects in Long Beach, Downtown and Sherman Oaks.
