According to a case filing with the Department of City Planning, the proposed development at 6400 N. Canoga Avenue would feature 25- and 27-story towers, creating a total of 610 residential units. Plans also call for an expansion of an existing three-story office building on the property, which dates to the early 1980s.
Additional details about the proposed development are unclear.
The project would create the latest in a string of mixed-use towers slated Warner Center. Several high-rise buildings could rise as part of a multi-phase project which is expected to replace the Westfield Promenade shopping center, and a 24-story tower is proposed as part of a similar project at Burbank Boulevard and De Soto Avenue.
The Sandstone project is also located just south of a vacant 46-acre site that once housed a Rocketdyne manufacturing facility, which is in the process of being purchased by Mall of America owner Triple Five Group.
Warner Center, due to the generous zoning offered by its specific plan, currently has thousands of apartments planned or under construction in the form of smaller wood-frame structures.
Sandstone, which is based out of Westwood, recently purchased a large property near the L.A. Convention Center in Downtown Los Angeles that the city may rezone to facilitate the construction of a hotel.
