One block west of the UCLA campus in Westwood, construction is in the home stretch for a new apartment complex at the intersection of Landfair Avenue and Strathmore Drive.

The project, which is being developed by Damian Akhavi through the entity 540 Landfair, LLC, replaced a pair of smaller apartment buildings completed in their 1950s. After demolition, the half-acre site has yielded  new five- and six-story buildings which will feature a total of 21 apartments, rooftop decks and 160 parking stalls on three-to-four underground levels.

As the project was submitted to the city entitlements in 2016,the project features one fewer residential units than the buildings that were replaced - something which would no longer be permitted under state law. However, the new construction features a larger number of five- and six-bedroom floor plans, which would cater to students at nearby UCLA.

Jamie B. Myer Architects, Inc. is designing the buildings, which have a contemporary style. Renderings show lush landscaping around the perimeter of the building, as well as a large courtyard which would divide the two structures.

The construction is the first of an upcoming wave of new apartment complexes on the surrounding blocks which will cater to students, including developments now taking shape on Strathmore Drive and Glenrock Avenue.

UCLA has also ramped up its own efforts to build student housing in the neighborhood, including a new proposal to build up to 545 beds at 565 Gayley Avenue.
