A ribbon-cutting ceremony held on August 25 marked the grand opening of Veterans Village of Carson, a new affordable and supportive housing development built by Thomas Safran & Associates.

The complex, which sits at the southwest corner of Carson and Figueroa Streets is a four-story building consisting of 51 one-, two, and three-bedroom apartments above 2,500 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, a community room, and a 73-car garage.

On-site case management and supportive services are offered to residents through U.S.VETS.

Withee Malcolm Architects designed the contemporary wood-frame building, which features a large clock tower overlooking the intersection of Figueroa and Carson.

“We need to do more for our veterans who have protected and served our country," said California State Treasurer Fiona Ma in remarks released before the ceremony. "I’m so proud that two State Treasurer’s Office programs have helped the Veterans Village of Carson accomplish that goal: the low-income housing tax credit program and the CALReUSE Remediation program. This housing community provides needed affordable housing to our veterans and their families and gives them an opportunity for independence and personal growth."
