Earlier this week, Amoeba Music announced plans to relocate to a new space near the Pantages Theatre, ending years of speculation about the future of the beloved Hollywood landmark.
"We are humbled by the massive outpouring of support throughout this search from our customers and the L.A. community. We aim to do you proud and continue on as your supreme source for music, movies, and so much more," reads a statement posted to the store's website. "We look forward to seeing you at our new home on the corner of Hollywood & Argyle this Fall, and have provided more details for you below. Thank you for being a part of this journey with us."
The new location will be on the ground floor of the El Centro Apartments & Bungalows, a mixed-use development at 6200 Hollywood Boulevard which offers 507 residential units atop 60,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The property was developed by Clarett West and DLJ Capital Partners.
According to Amoeba, the new space will be slightly smaller than its existing store, but will still include space for live shows, signings, and other events.
Amoeba's relocation comes five years after selling its current home at 6400 Sunset Boulevard to developer GPI Companies. The low-rise structure is slated to be replaced with a 28-story apartment tower.
A timeline for the new store's opening is uncertain, but is not expected until after Labor Day.
The new office will house 250 employees, and is the fourth location for Titmouse, following its Hollywood headquarters and other satellite outposts in New York and Vancouver.
