After seven months of construction, the concrete frame of a new affordable housing development from Related California and the Weingart Center Association is starting to make its presence felt on the Downtown skyline.
The project, named 600 San Pedro, replaced a parking lot at the southeast corner of 6th and San Pedro Streets. Plans call for a 17-story building that will feature 302 residential units, including 298 units of permanent supportive housing. Other project elements include 2,800 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and a standalone 212-car parking structure.

Large Architecture is designing the contemporary high-rise building, which will feature a large amenity deck above the parking garage offering a courtyard, an amphitheater, and a community garden. Plans also call for laundry facilities, a library, and a fitness center.
Completion of the 600 San Pedro is expected in mid-2025.

The project is the second of three Weingart Center towers at the intersection of 6th and San Pedro. The first, a 19-story tower which now wrapping up construction next to Weingart's headquarters, will be accompanied by a smaller 12-story building with more than 100 supportive housing units. The three projects will account for nearly 700 homes at completion.
Weingart and Related are teaming up on a second project elsewhere in Downtown:the Alveare apartments. The proposed 335-unit affordable housing complex would rise on the former site of state offices at 1405 S. Broadway.
