Less than a month after securing a $117-million construction loan, the J.H. Snyder Company is beginning work for a 21-story apartment tower near LACMA.

The Wilshire Curson development, which will replace a parking lot next to the Museum Square office building, will feature 285 residential units in addition to a rooftop pool deck and a 410-car garage on two subterranean levels.

MVE + Partners is designing the contemporary glass-and-steel building, which will rise approximately 200 feet in height.

Snyder had previously sought to construct a 12-story office building at the site, but officially abandoned that plan earlier this year.

Per a project representative, crews are currently relocating utilities that service the restaurants and an existing parking structure.  Excavation for the tower's foundation and underground parking garage is expected to start in two-to-three weeks.

Work at the Wilshire Curson site was first spotted by KNX business reporter Frank Mottek.
