Yet another long-vacant building on Downtown's Broadway corridor is about to be reactivated.

Earlier this week, the British developer Ennismore began construction at the historic Los Angeles Railway building at 1060 S. Broadway.  The 10-story edifice, which was completed in 1925, is being converted into the newest location of the hip Hoxton hotel chain.

Chicago-based GREC Architects is designing the project, which will convert the upper floors of the L.A. Railway building into 164 guest rooms.  Other facilities within the historic office tower will include lounge arreas, a spa, event space and multiple food and beverage venues.  Like similar hotels located nearby, plans also call for a rooftop pool deck.

Ennismore purchased the building in late 2015 for a reported sum of $30 million.  The Broadway location will become the fifth for Hoxton, following hotels in London, Amsterdam, New York and Paris.

The Los Angeles Hoxton is one of three hotels coming to a two-block segment of Broadway over the next several years, following the Proper now under construction across 11th Street and an unnamed establishment planned by Onni Group.  All three projects emerge in the wake of the success of the Ace Hotel, which opened to great fanfare at 929 S. Broadway in early 2014.

Mixed-Use Development Planned Near Laguna Niguel Metrolink Station

The project is part of the city's Gateway District.

The Laguna Niguel Planning Commission has approved a mixed-use development near the city's Metrolink Station.  The joint venture between Blackwood Real Estate and Walbern, located near the intersection of Crown Valley Parkway and Forbes Road, will consist of 100 two- and three-bedroom apartments in a seven-story building.  Plans also call for 2,700 square feet of ground-floor retail space, as well as a pool courtyard, a fitness center, a private garden, and a sky deck.
