Excavation has started at the northwest corner of Vine Street and Willoughby in Hollywood, where a local real state investor plans to construct a mixed-use apartment complex.

The project site at 901 N. Vine Street, formerly a car wash, is slated for the construction of a five-story building featuring 76 one- and two-bedroom dwellings with 3,200 square feet of ground-floor retail, common amenities, and semi-subterranean parking for 90 vehicles.

Plus Architects is designing the building, which will consist of wood-frame construction above a concrete podium.  Architectural plans show that exterior finishes will include stucco, cement, and metal.

City records link the project applicant as an entity called Vine Equity Capital, LLC.

Just north on Vine Street, construction is now underway for a $450-million development from Kilroy Realty that will feature a 20-story apartment tower and offices that have been leased by Netflix.
