Six months after clearing a property at 3rd Street and Mariposa Avenue in Koreatown, developer CGI Strategies has made it official: construction is underway for the company's latest development.

The project, known as the Mariposa, will feature 121 apartments - including 17 units of affordable housing - and 4,600 square feet of ground-floor retail space.  The seven-story brick and concrete building will offer a mix one- and two-bedroom apartments - ranging between 622 and 1,000 square feet - in addition to a rooftop pool deck, a fitness center, and a theater room.

Architect Warren Techentin designed the podium-type building.

Completion of the Mariposa is anticipated in Spring 2018.

CGI's pipeline of Koreatown developments currently consists of more than 500 residential units.

Slowly but surely, the concrete frame of 1133 Hope Street rises in South Park. The 28-story tower, located just east of Metro's Pico Station, will feature 200 residential units above 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail uses and a parking podium upon completion.  Plans for the mixed-use project dated back to 2005, when the Canadian development firm Amacon initially submitted plans for a 35-story building on the site.
