Just south of SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, earth movers and heavy equipment are on site at 12540 Crenshaw Boulevard, where work is underway for a mixed-use apartment building.

The project, called Millennium Hawthorne, comes from the Houston-based developer Dinerstein Cos.  Plans call for the construction of a five-story building featuring 230 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments with 3,100 square feet of ground-floor retail and a parking structure.

Designed by Steinberg Hart, the mixed-use complex will include several courtyards which open to the street, as well as amenities including a fitness center, a swimming pool, and an outdoor deck.

The project site sits a short distance south of the Green Line's Crenshaw Station, and a short walk from the future headquarters of Amazon subsidiary Ring.

The Hawthorne development represents the second ongoing project for Dinerstein in the Los Angeles area.  Work is well underway for the 356-unit Millennium Santa Monica development on Colorado Avenue.
