Construction is complete for a more than $60-million permanent supportive housing complex between Wilshire Boulevard and 7th Street in Westlake, KFA Architecture has announced.

SRO Housing Corp.'s Ingraham Apartments, named for its location at 1230 W. Ingraham Street, replaced a surface parking lot with a new seven-story building featuring 121 apartments - including a one-bedroom manager's unit and 120 studio units which average approximately 400 square feet in size, each featuring private kitchens and full bathrooms.

The supportive housing is reserved for chronically homeless and low-income residents, and will be priced for households earning no more than 60 percent of the area median income level.

KFA's design for the Ingraham development is described as "a modern interpretation of the historic mid-rise apartments that make up this urban neighborhood." It emphasizes vertical forms, with large, recessed windows. Other elements include a landscaped central courtyard, which connects to interior common spaces, as well as a lounge space and amenity deck on the rooftop.

“We see this project as one that can seamlessly integrate into an active, pedestrian-oriented, working class neighborhood and reinforce its distinct metropolitan character,” said KFA Senior Associate Jaime Olmos in a news release.

SRO Housing financed the apartment complex through sources including Los Angeles County's affordable housing trust fund, Measure HHH, and approximately $32.5 million in tax-exempt bonds.

The Ingraham Apartments are the second recent project which SRO Housing and KFA have worked on in the Westlake community, following the nearby Hartford Villa apartments, which features 101 supportive units on a site located just south of 3rd Street.
